Day 2 - Hoi to Alola

Up at 5.45 am in the morning.
Beautiful stream runs right pass the guesthouse. Perfect for swim / bath

A picture of one of the better toilets on the track. The one here at Hoi actually has a seat ;-)

Sunrise over one of the huts near Hoi. The cloud sits beautifully in the valleys in the early morning.

Picture below shows Andrew walking through Chocko vines. These were planted by Japanese troops during the war. The end of the vines make for good eating.

Coke and Twisties for sale at Isurava village after the climb up the hill. Coke was $7 Kina and Twisties $2 Kina. Cokes go down real well after a hot days trekking !

Australian doctors from Brisbane Hospital running blood tests on trekkers. They are researching into electrolyte levels in trekkers during heavy exercise. They are hoping to gain a better understanding as to whether electrolyte levels may be related to the relatively high numbers of trekker deaths recently.

Here are my blood test results. All normal according to the doctors.

Photos from the Isurava memorial.

Looked like it was going to be a good night weather wise so we thought we would tent it tonight rather than sleeping in the guest hut at Alola.

Well, it started raining about 5pm (like most nights) and rained solidly into the night. The tent proved to be good and watertight !  Only problem was packing the tent wet next day.... added quite a bit to its' weight.

Tony asked the guest house family in Alola to cook for us. We ate sweet potato (fried) and chocko vine. Tasted real good after a couple of days of freeze dried meals.
